Adrian Stroe: DevOps Engineer at Responsible Cyber

by Wen Sin Lim
Adrian Stroe is a DevOps engineer at Responsible Cyber. He is responsible for maintaining and improving IMMUNE’s infrastructure and ensuring seamless integration and deployment.

1. What motivated you to pursue a career in this field and how did you get started in this industry?

I was initially motivated to pursue a career in cybersecurity due to my fascination with hacking techniques and the realization that there was the potential to make a real impact using technology. After watching some hacking-related videos, I pursued a CompTIA Linux+ certification which helped me secure a role as a cloud support engineer for an outsourcing company that collaborated with Google Cloud. This was before I joined Responsible Cyber.

2. In your opinion, how does your role contribute to the success of the IMMUNE product and RCPL as a whole?

In my opinion, my role contributes to the success of IMMUNE by ensuring that the infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently in several ways.

By setting up and maintaining the CI/CD pipeline that automates the deployment of software updates, we allow for quicker updates. This ensures that the product is always up-to-date and meets the needs of our clients.

By setting up and maintaining monitoring and alerting systems that notify the team of any issues or potential issues with the infrastructure or the application, we enable quick response times and ensure that issues are resolved before they can affect the user experience.

Finally, by managing the cloud infrastructure that hosts the IMMUNE product, monitoring and managing servers, databases, and other cloud resources, we allow for better scalability, and improved overall performance, which ultimately benefits the company and its clients.

3. Do you find your work at RCPL rewarding? Please elaborate.

The most rewarding aspect of working on the IMMUNE product is the opportunity to be part of a team that is creating innovative solutions in the cybersecurity space. I also appreciate the challenges that come with ensuring the product's infrastructure is reliable and secure as then I am having to expand my skills in DevOps and cloud technologies every day.

I am continually learning and contributing to various aspects of the product's development, which I find fulfilling. I am confident that, with time and experience, I will have the opportunity to be part of projects that I can lookback on with pride.

4.What has been the biggest challenge(s) you’ve faced while working on the IMMUNE product, and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges I faced while working on the IMMUNE product was dealing with an infrastructure upgrade that required us to implement afunctional CI/CD pipeline to streamline the deployment process. The complexity lay in designing and configuring a pipeline that met the requirements of the IMMUNE product, not to mention it involved working with new tools and technologies that I was not familiar with.

To overcome this, I collaborated closely with the team, leveraging our collective expertise, and utilised various tools and methodologies put at our disposal by AWS Cloud Platform to ensure a smooth transition.

5. Has RCPL supported your professional development? Please elaborate.

RCPL has given me the opportunity to learn more about cloud architecture and security, providing me with training resources and guidance to enhance my understanding of the security pillars and how they apply to cloud architecture. By enhancing my knowledge of cloud architecture, I have been able to contribute more effectively to the design and implementation of new projects.

6. What do you think sets RCPL and/or the IMMUNE product apart from other companies and/or products in the industry?

To me, what sets RCPL and the IMMUNE product apart from other companies and products in the industry is our commitment to innovation and quality. We are constantly striving to improve our product and stay ahead of emerging threats, which helps us maintain a competitive edge.

7. How would you describe the company culture at RCPL?

The company culture at RCPL is collaborative and supportive, with a strong focus on innovation and teamwork. This is an environment where we can freely share ideas, learn from each other, and work together to achieve our common goals.

8. What are some of the activities or hobbies that you enjoy outside of work, and how do they help you recharge and refresh?

Outside of work, I enjoy various activities such as hiking, playing video games, and more. Fishing on a wild river is also something I do from time to time to spend time in nature and disconnect from the fast-paced world. I enjoy camping near the river and spending my evenings or nights around a fire and if I’m lucky enough to catch something, cooking it over an open fire always makes for a memorable experience.
